—from Hafs ibn Ghiyāth, from Ḥajjāj ibn Arṭāʾah, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Rāsibī, from a client of Abū Bakrah, from Abū Bakrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There are two sins whose punishment is hastened and for which no pardon is given: oppression and severing the ties of kinship.” (1)
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī informed us; Sālim ibn al-Ḥasan informed us; Naṣr Allah al-Qazzāz informed us; Abū Saʿd ibn Khushaysh informed us; Abū ʿAlī ibn Shādhān informed us; Abū ʿAmr ibn al-Sammāk informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allah al-Munādī narrated to us; Hafs ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us; Ḥajjāj narrated to us, from Maʿrūf, who said:
“We went out with some of our hunting dogs, and ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar met us. He said, ‘When you release them, say: In the name of Allah; O Allah, guide their breasts (i.e., make their aim true).’” (2)
Hārūn ibn Ḥātim said, “I heard Hafs ibn Ghiyāth say, ‘I was born in the year 117 AH.’”
Hārūn added, “Hafs suffered paralysis when Ibn Idrīs died, and he stayed in his house until he passed away in the year 194 AH, during the first ten days of the month. Al-Faḍl ibn al-ʿAbbās, the governor of Kūfa at the time, led his funeral prayer.”
In that same year his death was also dated by Khalīfah, Ibn Numayr, Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj, and al-ʿUṭāridī.
