Yusuf ibn Musa al-Qattan said: “Jarir died on Wednesday evening, after one day of Jumada al-Ula had passed, in 188 AH. He was between seventy-eight and seventy-nine years old, and his son ʿAbd Allah led the funeral prayer for him.”
I say: More than one authority has recorded his death in that very year.
ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim informed us; ʿAbd al-Samad ibn Muhammad informed us—placing me in the fourth tier of transmission—ʿAli ibn al-Musallam informed us; al-Husayn ibn Talab informed us; Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Jumayʿ informed us; Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Hakam al-Bazzar of Kafarbiyya (1) informed us; Muhammad ibn Qudamah narrated to us; Jarir ibn ʿAbd al-Hamid narrated from al-Mukhtar ibn Fulful, from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘I will be the first to intercede in Paradise, and I will have the largest following among the prophets.’”
Zaʾidah ibn Qudamah corroborated this narration. Muslim (2) included it through both of their chains, and thus it has reached us with an elevated isnad.
