The original manuscript states verbatim:
The sixth volume of the book Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ is hereby completed. Its author is the shaykh, the imām, the discerning critic, the outstanding scholar who gathered the scattered branches of knowledge, the historian of Islam, Shams al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān al-Dhahabī of Damascus.
This is the very first copy to be transcribed from the author’s own handwriting, and it has been collated against the original to the extent possible. Praise and favor belong to Allah alone; with Him lies success and protection from error.
The next volume—number seven—opens with the biography of al-Bakkāʾī.
The copying of this volume was finished in the year 740 AH.
May Allah bless our master Muhammad. Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best guardian. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
