Several authorities relate that this al-ʿAbbās was one of the outstanding men of Banū Hāshim—known for generosity, sound judgment, and bravery—and that Hārūn al-Rashīd both feared him and held him in high regard. Shabāb said: He was born in 120 AH and died in 186 AH. He was the most distinguished of the ʿAbbāsids in his time.
141 – The Chief Judge Abū Yūsuf Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Anṣārī*
He is the imām, the independent jurist(1), the eminent scholar, the ḥadīth expert, and the Chief Judge: Abū Yūsuf Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥabīb ibn Hubaysh ibn Saʿd ibn Bujayr ibn Muʿāwiyah al-Anṣārī, of Kūfah.
Saʿd ibn Bujayr was a Companion; he is the same Saʿd ibn Ḥabta—Ḥabta being his mother—and he belonged to the tribe of Bajīlah.

(1) That is, he was a mujtahid mutlaq—one who possesses complete mastery of fiqh, exceptional acuity, penetrating insight, and the ability to derive legal rulings independently from the primary sources—on a par with Abu Hanifa, Malik, al-Shafiʿi, Ahmad, al-Thawri and al-Awzaʿi. This is contrary to the view of Ahmad ibn Sulayman al-Rumi, known as Ibn Kamal Pasha (d. 940 AH/1533 CE), followed by several Hanafi scholars, among them Ibn ʿAbidin, author of Radd al-Muhtar, who maintained that he was only a mujtahid within the madhhab, differing from his imam in some rulings while still imitating him in the principles of usul.
The learned Shihab al-Marjani (d. 1306 AH/1888 CE) refuted this claim in his work Nazurat al-Haqq, a passage reproduced by the scholar al-Kawthari in Husn al-Taqadi, pp. 102 and 116; consult it, for it is of great value.
