ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ḥasan informed us; Abū ʿAwanah the ḥāfiẓ likewise informed us; Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr al-Sakūnī, ʿAṭiyyah ibn Baqiyyah, and Abū ʿUtbah of Ḥimṣ narrated to us, saying:
“Baqiyyah narrated to us; al-Zubaydī narrated to us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever is invited to a wedding or something similar should answer the invitation.’ (1)

By this same chain Abū ʿAwanah informed us; ad-Dabarī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzāq related to us, from Maʿmar, from Ayyūb, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘When one of you invites his brother, let him respond—whether it is a wedding or any other gathering.’ (2)

Again through this chain Abū ʿAwanah informed us; Abū Umayyah related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ghanj, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar:
from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): ‘When one of you invites his brother, he should go to him—be it a wedding or something of that kind.’

This ḥadith is sound, and Muslim did not include it in his Ṣaḥīḥ.

The first version was also recorded by Ibn Rāhwayh, from ʿĪsā ibn al-Mundhir, from Baqiyyah, and Baqiyyah has no other narration in the Ṣaḥīḥ besides this one.

Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraquṭnī said: “Baqiyyah’s kunyah is Abū Yuḥmid, and the hadith scholars pronounce it with an open yāʾ.”

Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ said: “I heard Baqiyyah say: When I recited to Shuʿbah the ḥadiths of Baḥīr ibn Saʿd, he remarked, ‘O Abū Yuḥmid! Had I not heard them from you, I would have flown with joy.’”

Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us; Mushir narrated to us—
