from Abū Ḥamzah, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“It was asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, what if a man forgets the adhān and the iqāmah?’ ”
This wording is closer to being acceptable, yet ʿUbayd—whose identity is unknown—is the defect in the chain. (1)
Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Bāghandī related: Sulaymān ibn Salamah al-Khabāʾirī narrated to us; Baqiyyah narrated to us; Mālik narrated to me, from al-Zuhrī, from Anas:
from the Prophet ﷺ: “Awaiting relief is an act of worship.”
This is false; neither Mālik nor even Baqiyyah transmitted it. The one suspected of fabricating it is Sulaymān. (2)
The same flaw mars the report about al-Khiḍr that begins, “While he was walking in the marketplace of the Children of Israel …,” in its entirety.
It was transmitted by ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn al-Ḍaḥḥāk—the discredited ʿUrḍī—and by Sulaymān ibn ʿUbaydallāh al-Raqqī—about whom Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn said, “He is nothing.” Both of them relate it from Baqiyyah, who said, “Muḥammad ibn Ziyād narrated to us, from Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī,” as a Prophetic ḥadīth. (3)
Baqiyyah also reports—through Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim—
from Ibn ʿUmar, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ: “Whoever catches one rakʿah of Jumuʿah and only its opening takbīrah has caught the prayer.”
This is objectionable, for the reliable transmitters relate part of this from al-Zuhrī without mentioning
