Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, who said:
A man returned to his family and, seeing the straitened circumstances they were in, went out into the open country. His wife thereupon prayed, “O Allah, grant us something that can be kneaded and baked.”—and lo, the kneading-tray was overflowing with dough, the hand-mill was turning, and the oven was packed with flanks of roasting meat. Her husband came back and asked, “Do you have anything?” She answered, “Yes—Allah’s provision.” He then swept up what was around the millstone. When this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, “Had she left it, it would have continued to revolve—or, he said, to grind—until the Day of Resurrection.” (1)
This is an objectionable (munkar) hadith.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd used to repudiate the hadith of Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd. He related that someone mentioned before Ibn Masʿūd a woman who would bathe and then perform wudu, whereupon he said, “If she were under my authority, she would not do that.” Ahmad commented, “We think Abū Bakr erred; this report is only transmitted by al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah.”
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUlail al-ʿAnazi narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Qurashi, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, who said:
Al-Rashid asked me, “How was Abū Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, appointed caliph?” I replied, “Commander of the Faithful, Allah kept silent, His Messenger kept silent, and the believers kept silent.” He said, “By Allah, you have only made me more bewildered.” I said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill for eight days. Bilal entered and said, ‘Command Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.’ So he led them for eight days while revelation was descending. The Messenger of Allah kept silent because Allah kept silent, and the believers kept silent because the Messenger of Allah kept silent.” That pleased him, and he said, “May Allah bless you.”
Zakariyya al-Saji reported to us: Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbar related to me, who said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allah related to me, who said: Ibrāhīm ibn Abī Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh said: “Al-Rashid summoned my father …”
