—he said: “Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Sufyān, from Jābir, from Umm Mubashshir, who said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—came in to see me while I was tending some palm-trees of mine. He asked, ‘Who planted these date-palms, a Muslim or a disbeliever?’ I replied, ‘A Muslim.’ He said, ‘Whenever a Muslim plants a tree or sows a field from which a human being, a beast of prey, or a bird eats, that is counted for him as charity.’ ” Recorded by Muslim (1).
I read this to Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAmīrah al-Muʿaddil, who said: “Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad the jurist informed you in the year 610 AH; al-Khaṭīb of Mosul, Tajannī, and Shuhdah likewise related to us.” They said:
“Ṭirād ibn Muḥammad informed us—and I read it to Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb the scribe—ʿAlī ibn Mukhtār informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī informed us; Naṣr ibn Aḥmad said:
Hilāl ibn Muḥammad al-Haffār informed us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdām al-ʿIjlī narrated to us; Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ narrated to us, from Hishām, from al-Ḥasan regarding the verse, ‘Whenever their skins are burnt through, We shall replace them with other skins’ [al-Nisāʾ 4:56]. He said: ‘The Fire devours them seventy thousand times each day; when it has consumed them it is said to them, “Return,” so they return as they were.’ ” (2)
With this same chain: Fuḍayl narrated to us; ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās concerning the verse, ‘He knows the secret and what is even more hidden’ [Ṭā Hā 20:7]. He said: “He knows what you conceal within yourself, and He knows what you will do tomorrow.” (3)
Mujāhid ibn Mūsā said: Fuḍayl died in the year 186 AH.
