Ibn Isḥāq said: Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī reported that ʿUtbah broke the Messenger of Allah’s lower right incisor and cut his lower lip; ʿAbd Allāh b. Shihāb gashed his forehead; and Ibn Qamiʿah wounded his cheek, driving two rings of the iron helmet into it. The Prophet ﷺ then fell into one of the pits that Abū ʿĀmir had dug to ensnare the Muslims. ʿAlī grasped the Messenger of Allah’s hand, and Ṭalḥah raised him up until he stood upright. Mālik b. Sinān—the father of Abu Saʿīd—sucked the blood from the Prophet’s face and swallowed it, whereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The Fire shall not touch anyone whose blood has mingled with mine.” This report has a broken chain.
Al-Bakkāʾī said: Ibn Isḥāq told me that ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar related how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept shooting with his bow until its tips splintered; Qatādah b. al-Nuʿmān then picked it up, and it remained with him. That same day Qatādah’s eye was struck so that it hung down on his cheek; ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ restored it with his own hand, and it became the soundest and sharpest of his two eyes.
Al-Wāqidī said: Mūsā b. Yaʿqūb al-Zamʿī narrated to us, through his aunt, from her mother, from al-Miqdād b. ʿAmr, who said: “I would sometimes see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing on the day of Uḥud, shooting with his bow and throwing stones until the two sides separated. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained firm where he was with a small band who stood fast beside him.”
These two hadiths are weak, and both contain the detail that he shot with a bow.
Sulaymān b. Aḥmad, a resident of Wāsiṭ, said: Muḥammad b. Shuʿayb narrated to us; he said: I heard Isḥāq b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Furwah relate from ʿIyāḍ b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Saʿd b. Abī Sarḥ, from Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from Qatādah b. al-Nuʿmān—and he was
