A man sneezed in the presence of Ibn al-Mubārak, so Ibn al-Mubārak asked him, “What should a person say when he sneezes?” He answered, “Praise belongs to Allah.” Ibn al-Mubārak replied, “May Allah have mercy on you.” (2)

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Farrāʾ said: “Khurāsān has produced no one like these three: Ibn al-Mubārak, al-Naḍr ibn Shumayl, and Yaḥyā ibn Yaḥyā.”
ʿUthmān al-Dārimī said: I heard Nuʿaym ibn Ḥammād say—I heard Yaḥyā ibn Ādam say:
“Whenever I sought the finer, more delicate issues and did not find them in the books of Ibn al-Mubārak, I despaired of finding them elsewhere.”
