Muṭayyan added, “In the month of Rajab,” while others say, “In Shaʿbān.” Yaʿqūb said, “He died in Kūfah.” I say: only Aḥmad and Yaḥyā heard from him in Baghdad.
Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allāh informed us on several occasions, from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad; Tamīm ibn Abī Saʿīd related to us; Abū Saʿd al-Kanjarūdhī related to us; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān related to us; Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī related to us; Abū Maʿmar Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Hāshim, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from Bakr ibn Wāʾil, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah,
from ʿĀʾishah who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never struck a woman at all, nor a servant of his at all, nor did he ever strike anything with his hand, except when striving in the path of Allah. If something was taken from him he never sought retribution from its taker, unless Allah’s sacred limits were violated, in which case he would avenge for Allah’s sake.”
It was also recorded by al-Nasāʾī, through Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Marwazī, from Abū Maʿmar. (1)
Aḥmad ibn al-Muʾayyad informed us; Aḥmad ibn Ṣarma informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar informed us; Ibn al-Naqqūr informed us; ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar informed us; Aḥmad al-Ṣūfī informed us; Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Hāshim—and Wakīʿ—narrated to us, from Hishām, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When your companion dies, then leave him.”
It was transmitted by Abū Dāwūd (2), from Abū Khaythamah, from one of the two narrators.
