and obscene talk while fasting, and laughing at graves.”
Ibn al-Mubārak also narrated it from him. (1)
Abū al-Maʿālī al-Abarqūhī informed us; Zayd ibn Hibat Allāh informed him; Aḥmad ibn Qafarjal informed him; ʿĀṣim ibn al-Ḥasan informed him; ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Mahdī informed him; Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Muḥāmilī narrated to us from Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī, who transmitted from Abū Musḥir, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh, who said: Baḥīr related to me from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abū al-Dardāʾ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: ‘Son of Adam! Pray four rakʿahs for Me at the beginning of the day and I will suffice you for its remainder.’ ” (2)
This is a ḥasan narration; its chain is uninterrupted and it is of Syrian provenance.
Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh likewise reported—through Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn Abī Mulaykah—that ʿĀʾishah attributed to the Prophet ﷺ the words: “Whoever vomits or suffers a nosebleed and thereby breaks his state while praying should leave, perform ablution, and then resume his prayer.” (3)
Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal commented, “The correct ruling is that it is mursal.”
Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn said: Ismāʿīl narrated to us from Shuraḥbīl ibn Muslim, from Abū Umāmah—traced back to the Prophet ﷺ—who said, “The guarantor is liable.” (4)
This chain is strong.
