He died in Mosul. Others said he passed away in Balad(1) in 172 AH, and it has also been reported that he died in 171 AH.
He is Abū Shihāb the younger.
As for Abū Shihāb al-Hannāṭ the elder, he is Mūsā ibn Nāfiʿ. He narrated from Mujāhid, Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, and ʿAṭāʾ, while among those who transmitted from him were Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Abū Nuʿaym, and Abū al-Walīd. Ibn Maʿīn—and others—judged him reliable, whereas Aḥmad said, “His ḥadīths are objectionable,” and al-Qaṭṭān remarked, “They have ruined him for us.”
