Abu Nuʿaym al-Faḍl—and others—state that he died in 177 AH.
I say: he passed away in Kūfa, at the very beginning of the month of Dhuʾl-Qaʿdah, in the year seven—that is, 177 AH. He lived for eighty-two years.
I read this report to ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ ibn Badrān and Yūsuf ibn Aḥmad, and they both said:
“Mūsā ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir narrated to us in 618 AH; Abū al-Qāsim Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Busrī narrated to us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhalliṣ narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Suwayd ibn Saʿīd al-Ḥadathānī narrated to us; Sharik narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Ḥakīm ibn Jābir, from his father, who said:
‘I saw some dubbaʾ (squash) with the Prophet ﷺ, so I asked, “What is this?” He replied, “This is dubbaʾ; we use it to make our food go further.” (1)’
This ḥadith possesses a sound chain of transmission.
With the same chain: al-Mukhalliṣ Abū Muḥammad Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṣāʿid informed us; Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Ḥabīb—known as Luwayn—related to us; he said:
‘Sharik narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ, regarding the verse, “and its clusters will hang low, made easy to reach” (Q 76:14). He said: “The inhabitants of Paradise will eat from them standing, sitting, reclining—indeed, in whatever posture they wish.” (2)’
