The erudite scholar, ḥadīth master, and judge, Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Nakhaʿī, was counted among the eminent authorities, though there is a degree of weakness in his narrations. Because of this, some leading scholars refrained from citing his solitary reports.
Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim said, “He is Sharik ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Sinān ibn Anas.” Others say, “He is Sharik ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī Sharīk ibn Mālik ibn al-Nakhaʿ; his grandfather was the killer of al-Ḥusayn—may God be pleased with him.”
Sharik lived to see ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz and heard ḥadīth from Salama ibn Kuhayl, Mansūr ibn al-Muʿtamir, and Abū Isḥāq. In their assessment he was not of the strongest reliability.
Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb said, “Sharik ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Aws, the judge, lived to see ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.”
