—who was many years younger than he—by way of al-Awzaʿi, from Dāwūd ibn ʿAṭāʾ, from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Nāfiʿ, the freedman of Ibn ʿUmar.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ said: Al-Layth narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Yazīd, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from Ibn al-Hād, from Ibn Shihāb, from ʿUrwah, that he asked ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) about the Almighty’s words, “And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphans…” (al-Nisāʾ 4:3)… and he related the rest of the ḥadith. (1)
Abū Ṣāliḥ said: Al-Layth related to us; Khālid ibn Yazīd told me, from Saʿīd, from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Abū al-Zubayr, informing him that he had seen Ibn ʿUmar, whenever he prostrated and then raised his head from the first prostration, sit on the tips of his toes, saying, “This is part of the sunnah.”
No one reported this ḥadith except al-Layth,
and Abū Ṣāliḥ is the only one who singled it out from him.
A group of transmitters said: Al-Layth narrated to us, from Ibn al-Hād, from ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Abī Bakr, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muslim, from Ibn Shihāb, from Anas:
The Prophet ﷺ was asked about al-Kawthar, and he said, “It is a river my Lord has granted me—whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, and in it are birds whose necks are like those of long-necked camels.”
ʿUmar said, “Messenger of Allah, those birds must be exceedingly delicate!”
He replied, “Those who eat them, O ʿUmar, will be even more delicate than they are.” (2)
