Ibn Qudāmah the jurist (1) informed us; Abū al-Fatḥ ibn al-Baṭṭī and Yaḥyā ibn Thābit the Grocer likewise transmitted. Abū al-Fatḥ said:
Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us, and al-Baqqāl (Yaḥyā) said: My father informed us. They all said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ghālib, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us; he said:
I read before Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn Ḥamdān, and he said, “Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm has related to you; Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr related to us; al-Layth ibn Saʿd narrated to me, from Yazīd ibn al-Hād, from Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, from Ibn Shihāb, from Ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say’—and he mentioned the ḥadith—‘While I was sleeping I saw myself at a well, and I drew from it as much as Allah willed that I should draw …’ ”
Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd also transmitted it to us; they said:
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad the jurist informed us; Abū Bakr ibn al-Naqqūr informed us; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAllāf informed us; Abū al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥammāmī narrated to us; Daʿlaj ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Būshanjī narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn al-Hād, from Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, from Ibn Shihāb, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘While I was sleeping I saw myself at a well and drew from it whatever Allah willed I should draw. Then Ibn Abī Quḥāfah drew one bucket or two, and his drawing was faint—may Allah forgive him. Then the bucket became a large bucket, and Ibn al-Khaṭṭāb took hold of it, and I never saw any stalwart among the people draw as he drew, until the water overflowed …’ ”
