Al-Walīd ibn Mazīd al-ʿUdhri said: Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz was asked, “What is the bare sufficiency of provision (al-kafāf)?” He answered, “To be satiated one day and hungry the next.” (1)
Several transmitters informed us—through ʿAbd al-Barr, the son of the ḥāfiẓ Abū al-ʿAlāʾ al-ʿAṭṭār; from his father; from Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥaddād; from Abū Nuʿaym the ḥāfiẓ; from Sulaymān al-Ṭabarānī; from Abū Zurʿah and Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah—who said:
Yaḥyā ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; Saʿīd narrated to us, from Yūnus ibn Maysarah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I saw the pillar of the Book taken from beneath my pillow, and I followed it with my eyes until it became a brilliant light in Syria.” (2)
This ḥadīth was also transmitted by al-Walīd and Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī on the authority of Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.
Through this same chain, Abū Zurʿah narrated to us; Abū Mushir narrated to us; Saʿīd narrated to me, from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAmīrah al-Muzanī:
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to Muʿāwiyah, “O Allah, make him a guide who is himself rightly guided; guide him, and guide others through him.” (3)
With this chain, ʿAbdān related to us; ʿAlī ibn Sahl al-Ramlī narrated to us; al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us; Saʿīd narrated to us, from Yūnus—meaning Ibn Maysarah—from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī
