Abu Saʿd informed us; Abu ʿAmr al-Hayri informed us; Abu Yaʿla related to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salam narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn Tahman narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Najiyah ibn Kaʿb, from ʿAli, who said:
When Abu Talib died, I went to the Messenger of Allah—may peace and blessings be upon him—and said, “Your misguided elderly uncle has passed away.”
He replied, “Go and bury him, and do not do anything until you return to me.”
So I carried out his instruction, then came back to him, and he said to me, “Perform a full ritual bath.”
He also taught me invocations that are dearer to me than a herd of red camels.
