Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr said, “I asked Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ, ‘Describe for us the ghusl (ritual washing) of the deceased,’ but he was so overwhelmed that he could not hold back his tears.”

ʿAbdah ibn Sulaymān said, “I believe that Allah would feel shy to punish Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ.”

Abū Nuʿaym remarked, “Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ related traditions to us, and in waraʿ (scrupulous piety) and moral strength he was in no way inferior to Sufyān al-Thawrī.”

Al-Ḥunaynī reported: “I heard Abū Ghassān say, ‘Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ is better than Sharīk—from here all the way to Khurasan.’ ”

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr said that Abū Nuʿaym used to declare, “I have never seen anyone who did not slip somewhere—except Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ.”

Aḥmad ibn Yūnus related: “Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ once asked a man about a certain matter. The man replied, ‘I do not know.’ Ḥasan said, ‘Only now have you truly come to know.’ ”

Ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī transmitted from ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn Muṭarrif: “Whenever Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ wished to admonish someone, he would write the advice on his tablets and then hand it to him.”

Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Rāzī reported from Abū Nuʿaym: “I heard Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ say, ‘I have examined waraʿ, and I have not found it more lacking in anything than in the tongue.’ (1)”

ʿAlī ibn al-Mundhir al-Ṭarīfī quoted Abū Nuʿaym as saying, “I wrote down hadith from eight hundred transmitters, yet I never met anyone superior to Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ.”

Ibn ʿAdī said, “There is a group who transmit written volumes from Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ; with Salamah …”
