(1) Her biography is recorded in: Ibn Saʿd, al-Tabaqat, 8/205; Abu Nuʿaym, Hilyat al-Awliyaʾ, 2/74; Ibn al-Athir, Usd al-Ghabah, 7/14-15; Ibn Hajar, Lisan al-Mizan, 7/522-523; the same author, al-Isabah, 12/116-117. Numayr, both from Musa al-Juhani, from Fatima bt. ʿAli, from Asmaʾ bt. ʿUmays; its chain is sound. Al-Bukhari also records it (8/86) in the Book of Military Campaigns, chapter on the Expedition of Tabuk, and in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions, chapter on the merits of ʿAli b. Abi Talib; Muslim includes it under no. 2404. According to Saʿd b. Abi Waqqas, when the Messenger of Allah set out for Tabuk he appointed ʿAli as his deputy. ʿAli asked, “Do you leave me among women and children?” The Prophet replied, “Are you not pleased to occupy toward me the position Harun held toward Musa, except that no prophet will come after me?”
