112 – ʿUthmān al-Burrī, Abū Salamah ibn Miqsam al-Kindī (t)
A distinguished scholar, legal authority, and the jurist of Basrah: Abū Salamah ʿUthmān ibn Miqsam al-Kindī, their client, al-Baṣrī, known as al-Burrī.
He transmitted from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, Saʿīd al-Maqburī, Nāfiʿ, Qatādah, Abū Isḥāq, Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān, Farqad al-Sabakhī, Manṣūr ibn al-Muʿtamir, and others.
He was among those who compiled knowledge and committed it to writing.
Those who narrated from him include Sufyān al-Thawrī, Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī, Abū ʿĀṣim, Salm ibn Qutaybah, Yaḥyā ibn Sallām, Shaybān ibn Farrūkh, and many others.

(1) The remainder of the report reads: “O Messenger of Allah, is there any act of dutifulness still owed to my parents after their death?” He answered: “Yes: praying for them, asking forgiveness for them, carrying out the pledges they left, maintaining the kinship that exists only through them, and honouring their friends.” It is related by Ahmad, 3/497–498; Abu Dawud, no. 5142 (Book of Manners, chapter: Dutifulness to parents); Ibn Majah, no. 3664 (Book of Manners, chapter: Keep ties with those your father kept); and Ibn Hibban, no. 2030. Only Ibn Hibban rated Usayd b. Ali and his father as reliable, yet al-Hakim declared the hadith authentic (4/155), a judgement with which al-Dhahabi—and the present author—agree.
