, Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah, al-Naḍr ibn Shaybān, Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, Saʿīd ibn al-Muhallab, Nāfiʿ al-ʿUmarī, and a number of others.
Those who narrated from him include ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, Abū Dāwūd, Hayyān ibn ʿAlī, ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd, Shaybān ibn Farrūkh, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī, Abū Naṣr al-Tammār, and many more besides.
Ibn Mahdī said, “He is one of our trustworthy teachers.”
ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī related, “I mentioned him to Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, and he praised him.”
I say: al-ʿUqaylī was mistaken to include al-Qāsim in his al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (1); all he actually recorded was the following:
“Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl told us, Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm told us, al-Qāsim narrated to us, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, who said: ‘While a shepherd was pasturing his flock, a wolf seized a ewe and the shepherd rescued it. The wolf then said, “Do you not fear Allah?”’”
I add: al-Tirmidhī authenticated this report (2) and treated it as marfūʿ, that is, traced back to the Prophet.
Al-Huddānī died in 167 AH; others say in 168.
A number of his higher isnāds have reached me in the collection al-Muntaqā min al-Mukhalisiyyāt (3).
