The ḥāfiẓ, hadith scholar, truthful authority, and Imām Abū Faḍālah al-Qurashī, al-ʿAdawī—a client of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb—was one of the leading scholars of Basra.
He had three brothers: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ʿUbayd al-Raḥmān, and Mufaḍḍal.
He was born during the lifetime of the Companions.
ʿUthmān ibn al-Haytham reported: “Mubārak ibn Faḍālah narrated to us, saying, ‘I saw Anas step forward and lead a congregation in a mosque.’ ”
He kept close company with al-Ḥasan and transmitted copiously from him, as well as from Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī, Thābit, Ibn al-Munkadir, Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit, ʿAlī ibn Zayd, ʿAbd Rabbih ibn Saʿīd, and a number of others.
The youngest tier of those who met him reaches down to ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-ʿUmarī.
Those who narrated from him include: Yaḥyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah, Wakīʿ, Yazīd ibn Hārūn, Abū al-Naḍr, Abū Dāwūd, Abū al-Walīd, ʿAffān, ʿAmr ibn Manṣūr, Shabābah, Ḥabbān ibn Hilāl, Muṣʿab ibn al-Miqdām, ʿUthmān ibn al-Haytham, Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān, Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm, Abū Nuʿaym, Abū Salamah, Kāmil ibn Ṭalḥah, ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd, Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khayrān, Hudbah ibn Khālid, and many others besides them.
Bahz ibn Asad said: “Mubārak told us that he had sat with al-Ḥasan for thirteen—or perhaps fourteen—years.”
