It is said that he saw Anas ibn Mālik.
He related ḥadīths from ʿIkrimah, ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, Nāfiʿ al-ʿUmarī, and ʿUbādah ibn Nusay.
Those who transmitted from him include Sufyān al-Thawrī, al-Muʿāfā ibn ʿImrān, Wakīʿ, al-Khuraibī, Abū ʿĀṣim, ʿUmar ibn Ayyūb, and others.
Abū Dāwūd said, “His ḥadīths are sound.”
A number of authorities declared him trustworthy, while al-Nasāʾī remarked, “He is not strong.”
Aḥmad (ibn Ḥanbal) said, “Weak; every report he traces back to the Prophet is objectionable.”
ʿAbbās and Aḥmad ibn Zuhayr narrated from Yaḥyā (ibn Maʿīn) that he said, “Trustworthy.”
Al-Ḥākim, however, slipped when he claimed, “There is unanimous agreement to abandon his narrations.”
I say: he died in 152 AH.
