69 – Ḥarb ibn Shaddād al-Yashkurī * (Kh, M, D, T, S)
The Imām, trustworthy ḥadith master, Abū al-Khaṭṭāb al-Yashkurī of Basra.
He narrated from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr, and a number of others.
Those who transmitted from him include ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī, Abū Dāwūd, ʿAmrū ibn Marzūq, ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ.
Accordingly, several authorities reported both from this shaykh and from the afore-mentioned Ḥarb ibn Maymūn.
Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal and other critics declared him reliable.
Al-Fallās said, “Yahyā ibn Saʿīd would not relate from him.”
I (the author) say: This reflects Yahyā’s stringent standards regarding transmitters; he exercised his own ijtihād and was, without doubt, a decisive authority in the critique of narrators.
Ḥarb ibn Shaddād died in 161 AH.
70 – Khālid ibn Abī ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khālid al-Umawī **
A descendant of Usayd ibn Abī al-ʿIṣṣ ibn Umayya ibn ʿAbd Shams, a Qurashī of the Umayyad clan, Abū Umayya al-Baṣrī, and one of the leading scholars.
