Yusuf related it from Abu Ishaq, and ʿAbd Allah ibn Numayr transmitted it from Malik ibn Mighwal; both chains go back to ʿAbd al-Rahman with the same wording.
Sulayman ibn Hamzah al-Hakim, ʿUmar ibn Muhammad al-ʿUmari, and Hudbah bint ʿAli informed us, saying:
“ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar informed us; ʿAbd al-Awwal ibn ʿIsa informed us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad informed us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Hammuyah informed us; ʿIsa ibn ʿUmar informed us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman the ḥāfiẓ narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us; Malik ibn Mighwal narrated to us:
Al-Shaʿbi said to me, ‘Whatever these people report to you from the Prophet ﷺ, take it; but whatever they voice from their own opinion, throw it into the latrine.’ (1)
57 – ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir al-Azdi * (ʿ)
The imam, ḥāfiẓ, and jurist of greater Syria alongside al-Awzaʿi; Abu ʿUtbah al-Azdi, the Damascene, the Dāranī.
He was born during the caliphate of ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwan. He met the leading figures, and—as far as I can ascertain—he even encountered some of the Companions.
He narrated from Abu Salam al-Aswad, Abu al-Ashʿath al-Sanʿani, Makḥul, ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmir al-Yaḥṣubi, Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, Abu Kabsha al-Saluli, ʿAtiyyah ibn Qays, and many others.
