Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Aḥmad said, “I heard Ibn ʿUyaynah relate:
A man once said to Mālik ibn Mighwal, ‘Fear Allah.’ So he placed his cheek upon the ground.
I (the author) commented: He ranked among the foremost of the scholars.
Abū Nuʿaym and Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah said that he died in 159 AH, while Muḥammad ibn Saʿd dated his death to 158 AH.
Al-Khaṭīb remarked, “Those who narrated from him include Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī and al-Rabīʿ ibn Yaḥyā al-Ushnānī; between their deaths there are ninety-seven or ninety-eight years. His transmitted material amounts to about one hundred hadiths.”

Abū Saʿīd Baybars al-Majdī in Aleppo informed us; Abū al-Barakāt ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Laṭīf ibn Ismāʿīl in Baghdad informed us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Shātil narrated to us; Abū Saʿd ibn Khushaysh (1) narrated to us; Abū ʿAlī ibn Shādhān narrated to us; Abū Bakr al-Najjād narrated to us. He said:
“It was read to ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muḥammad—while I was listening—
‘ʿĀṣim narrated to us, saying: Mālik ibn Mighwal informed us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Aswad, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“It is as though I can still see the gleam of perfume at the parting of the Messenger of Allah’s ﷺ hair while he was in ihram (state of consecration) (2).”’

This hadith was recorded by al-Bukhārī, Muslim, and al-Nasāʾī through the narration of Isrāʾīl and his brother.
