Abu Tahir Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Silafah—together with ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿUmar, al-Husayn ibn al-Husayn al-Hashimi, al-Mubarak ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbar, Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, and Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Karim—five transmitters in all, informed us:
Abu ʿAli al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Bazzaz told us; ʿUthman ibn Ahmad al-Daqqaq told us; Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd Allah al-Munadi narrated to us; Rawh ibn ʿUbadah narrated to us; Saʿid ibn Abi ʿArubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas:
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to Ubayy, “Indeed Allah has commanded me to have you recite the Qurʾan, or to recite it to you.”
Ubayy asked, “Did Allah mention me to you by name?”
He continued, “Was I remembered in the presence of the Lord of the worlds?”
The Prophet replied, “Yes.”
Ubayy’s eyes then overflowed with tears. (1)
Al-Bukhari transmitted this ḥadīth through Ibn al-Munadi, though he recorded his name as Ahmad. (2)
