The Prophet ﷺ then came forward and called out, “O so-and-so son of so-and-so, and O so-and-so son of so-and-so! Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.” I said, “Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that no longer possess souls?” He replied, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, you can no more hear what I say than they can; the only difference is that they are unable to reply.”
Shuʿbah narrated from Abū Isḥāq, from Ḥārithah, from ʿAlī who said: “Not one of us was mounted on the Day of Badr except al-Miqdād, who rode a piebald horse. I remember us—all asleep save the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who was beneath a samurah tree, praying and weeping until dawn.”
Abū ʿAlī ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Ḥanafī reported: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muhib related to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAwn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Rāfiʿ informed me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, from his father, from his grandfather, from ʿAlī, who said: “On the Day of Badr I fought for a time, then went to see what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was doing.
