Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd:
From the Prophet ﷺ who said: “My community will divide into two factions; a renegade group will break away between them, and it will be killed by the faction that is closer to the truth.” (1)
This is a sound hadith.
It was also narrated by Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from Abū Naḍrah.
159 – Ibn Hurmuz, ʿAbd Allah ibn Yazīd al-Aṣam *
The jurist of Medina—Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allah ibn Yazīd ibn Hurmuz al-Aṣam—was one of the notable scholars. Some, however, said that his name was Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Hurmuz.
He is counted among the Successors. He narrated only rarely, was devoted to worship and asceticism, and Mālik sat with him often and took knowledge from him.
Mālik said, “I loved to follow his example. He issued few legal rulings and was extremely cautious: he would often give a man a fatwa, then send someone after him to retract it, and inform him of a different ruling.”
He was well-versed in dialectical theology, refuting the people of misguided desires, and was among the most knowledgeable of mankind in that field. He clarified an issue for Ibn ʿAjlān; when Ibn ʿAjlān understood it, he rose, went to him, and kissed his head.
Bakr ibn Muḍar reported that Ibn Hurmuz said, “I learned knowledge only for myself.”
And Ibn Hurmuz said, “I like a man not to cling to his own opinion the way he clings to the Sunnah.”
It was also said that his father (2) was killed on the Day of al-Ḥarra.
