and he once prayed behind Anas ibn Malik.
Among those who transmitted from him were Shuʿbah, Hammad ibn Zayd, Wakiʿ, ʿUthman ibn ʿUmar, and ʿUthman ibn al-Haytham, the call to prayer announcer.

156 – ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAwn ibn Artaban al-Muzani, their client * (ʿ)
An imam, an exemplar, and the leading scholar of Basra—Abu ʿAwn al-Muzani, their client, a hadith master of Basra.
He narrated from: Abu Waʾil, al-Shaʿbi, al-Hasan, Ibn Sirin, al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, Ibrahim al-Nakhaʿi, Mujahid, Saʿid ibn Jubayr, Makḥul, Anas ibn Sirin, Thumamah ibn ʿAbd Allah, Rajaʾ ibn Haywah, Ziyad ibn Jubayr, ʿUmayr ibn Ishaq, Nafiʿ, Abu Rajaʾ—the client of Abu Qilabah—and many others.
I have found no evidence that he actually heard hadith from Anas ibn Malik, or from any Companion, even though he was born during the lifetime of Ibn ʿAbbas and his peers, lived in Basra alongside Anas, and it is merely reported that he once saw Anas wearing a khazz (silk-brocade) turban.
He was born in 66 AH and was older than Sulayman al-Taymi.
Among those who transmitted from him are: Sufyan, Shuʿbah, Ibn al-Mubarak, Muʿadh ibn Muʿadh, ʿAbbad ibn al-ʿAwwam, Muhammad ibn Abi ʿAdi, al-Nadr ibn Shumayl, Ismaʿil ibn ʿUlayyah, Yazid ibn Harun, Ishaq al-Azraq, Azhar al-Samman, Abu ʿAsim al-Nabil, and Quraysh ibn
