Abu Muhammad ibn Māsī informed us; Abu Muslim al-Kajjī informed us; al-Anṣārī narrated to us; Hishām ibn Ḥassān narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Mughaffal:
The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—forbade grooming the hair except occasionally. (1)
Abu Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and al-Nasāʾī also recorded it through the route of Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān and ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus, from Hishām, with similar wording.
The report, however, has a hidden flaw: it was transmitted by Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, as a mursal narration.
It was likewise reported by Bishr ibn al-MuFaḍḍal, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan and Ibn Sīrīn as their own statement, and this version is the stronger.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad informed us in his book; ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad informed us; Ibn al-Ḥuṣayn informed us; Ibn Ghaylān informed us; Abu Bakr al-Shāfiʿī informed us; Muḥammad ibn Maslamah narrated to us; Yazīd narrated to us; Hishām ibn Ḥassān informed us, from Muḥammad, from Abu Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “If a fasting person forgets and eats or drinks, it is Allah who has fed him and given him drink.” (2)
