the ḥadith scholar Abū ʿAmr—others said Abū ʿUmayr, and still others Abū Saʿīd al-Kūfī al-Hamdānī—the father of Ismāʿīl ibn Mujālid.
He transmitted narrations from al-Shaʿbī, Abū al-Waddāk Jabr ibn Nawf, Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, Murrah al-Hamdānī, Ziyād ibn ʿIlāqah, Muḥammad ibn Bishr, and Wabara ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. These seven are the only names listed for him in Tahdhīb.

Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid—who was older than he—also reported from him; this is an example of a Successor narrating from a member of the Followers of the Successors.
Bukhārī said: “Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd regarded him as weak.” ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī would not transmit anything from him, and Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal dismissed him altogether, saying, “He is nothing.” And he said,
