Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh said, “I once saw al-Aʿmash wearing his shirt inside-out and saying, ‘People are crazy; they put the rough side of the cloth against their skin.’
It is also reported that al-Aʿmash had a rather dull-witted son. He told him, ‘Go and buy us a clothesline.’
‘Father,’ the boy asked, ‘how long should it be?’
‘Ten cubits,’ he replied.
‘And how wide?’
‘As wide as the calamity I suffer because of you,’ al-Aʿmash answered.
