Al-Jawzajānī said, “He is not strong, yet his ḥadith is eagerly sought.”
Ibn ʿAdī remarked, “Mālik narrated from him in the Muwaṭṭaʾ, and I hope there is nothing objectionable about him.”
Aḥmad ibn Abī Maryam reported from Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn that he said, “Trustworthy.”
Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated—from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah—that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Whoever forgets to invoke blessings upon me has missed the road to Paradise.” (1)
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr died in 145 AH—some say 144 AH—after transmitting ḥadith in Iraq.
47 – ʿUrwah ibn Ruwaym al-Lakhmī al-Urdunī * (D, S, Q)
A jurist and ḥadith scholar, Abū al-Qāsim.
He narrated from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushani—though some say he actually heard him—and from Anas ibn Mālik and Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī.
He also transmitted mursal reports from Abū Dharr and others.
Among those who narrated from him are Muḥammad ibn Muhājir, Hishām ibn Saʿd, Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and Yaḥyā
(1) Its chain of transmission is sound (hasan). Al-Sakhawi cites it in al-Qawl al-Badi, p. 146, attributing it to al-Bayhaqi in Shuab al-Iman and in al-Sunan al-Kubra, to Ibn al-Jarrah in the fifth part of his Amali, and to al-Rashid al-Attar, adding that its isnad is hasan.
It is also supported by a mursal report with a good chain preserved by Ismail al-Qadi, no. 41, and by another narration from Ibn Abbas recorded by Ibn Majah, no. 809, although the latter contains Jabara b. Mughlis, who is weak.
Regarding the wording khatiʾa: the verb khatiʾa may simply mean “to err.” Some scholars, however, distinguish between khatiʾa (“to sin intentionally”) and akhtaʾa (“to err unintentionally”).
