And Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Ibn al-Muthannā and others said: He died in the year 142 AH.
Al-Bukhārī, however, recorded that he passed away in 142 or 143 AH.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb informed us; ʿAlī ibn Mukhtār likewise transmitted to us (ḥ).
ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad and Jaʿfar ibn Munayr related, saying:
“Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī narrated to us; al-Qāsim ibn al-Faḍl narrated to us; Hilāl ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Ḥusayn ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdām narrated to us; Ḥammād narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim ibn Sulaymān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sarjis, who said:
‘I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was sitting among his Companions. I walked around behind him, and he understood what I wanted. He cast the cloak from his back, and I saw the place of the Seal on the upper part of his shoulder, about the size of a clenched fist, surrounded by moles that looked like small protrusions. Then I moved round until I faced him and said, “May Allah forgive you, O Messenger of Allah.” He replied, “And you also.”
The people asked, “Has the Messenger of Allah sought forgiveness for you?”
I said, “Yes, and for you as well.” He then recited: ‘So ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women’ (1).’
