Abū Ḥātim said, “It is said that he was a descendant of ʿUbayd ibn al-Abras.
He narrated from: Jābir ibn Samurah, Ibn ʿAbbās, Ibn al-Zubayr, Anas, Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, and other Companions.
He also transmitted—in mursal form—from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn.

Ibn Saʿd said, “He was from Jusham ibn al-Ḥārith, and then from Asad ibn Khuzaymah.”
Aḥmad ibn Sinān al-Qaṭṭān narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī, who said:
“There are four men in Kūfah whose hadith is never disputed; if someone finds fault with their narrations, the mistake is his, not theirs. One of those four is Abū Ḥaṣīn al-Asadī.”
Abū Bakr ibn Abī al-Aswad transmitted from Ibn Mahdī, who said:
“No one in Kūfah was more firmly established than four: Mansūr, Abū Ḥaṣīn, Salamah ibn Kuhayl, and ʿAmr ibn Murrah.”
He added, “Mansūr was the most reliable of the people of Kūfah.”
Al-Ḥārith ibn Shurayḥ al-Naqqāl related from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī, who said:
“You will not find a ḥāfiẓ who disagrees with Abū Ḥaṣīn.”
