Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh also reported: “I heard him say, ‘I heard Muʿāwiyah on the pulpit cite the verse: Today I have perfected for you your religion… (Qur’an 5:3); it was revealed on a Friday, the Day of ʿArafah.’”

Baqiyyah narrated from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam, who said:
“ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz wrote to the governor of Ḥimṣ: ‘Look to those who have devoted themselves to jurisprudence, who remain in the mosque and have forsaken worldly pursuits; grant each of them one hundred dinars.’ ʿAmr ibn Qays and Asad ibn Wadāʿah were among those who received it.”
It was also said that ʿAmr ibn Qays was among those who marched to seek retaliation for the blood of the impious al-Walīd.
Maḥmūd ibn Khālid said: “He died in 140 AH, at the age of one hundred.”
