al-Bahāʾ ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said:
Fakhr al-Nisāʾ Shuhdah informed us, saying: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yaḥyā al-Sukkari informed us; it was read aloud to Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad; Saʿdān ibn Naṣr narrated to us; Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us; he said:
ʿAmr related that Ibn ʿAbbās said: “nikāḥ al-ḥurrah ʿalā al-amah ṭalāq al-amah”⦗1⦘—contracting marriage with a free woman while one is married to a slave-woman counts as the slave-woman’s divorce.
Al-Bukhārī transmitted this from Ibn al-Madīnī, who said: “ʿAmr has roughly four hundred hadiths.”
I (the author) say: It has already been mentioned that Ibn ʿUyaynah alone heard nine hundred and fifty hadiths from him; perhaps ʿAlī meant only the musnad (prophetically-traced) reports.
Abū Salamah reported—from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from ʿAmr—who said: “I sat with Jābir, Ibn ʿUmar, and Ibn ʿAbbās.”
He was declared reliable by Abū Zurʿah and Abū Ḥātim.
Nuʿaym ibn Ḥammād said: I heard Sufyān say: ʿAmr ibn Dīnār said to me, “Someone like you memorised hadith, and I was still a boy.” He added: When it reached him that I was writing things down, that displeased him.
Al-Azraq ibn Ḥassān narrated—from Shuʿayb ibn Ḥarb—who said: I heard Shuʿbah say: “I attended ʿAmr ibn Dīnār’s circle five hundred times, yet I memorised only one hundred hadiths from him—one hadith every five gatherings.”
145 – As for ʿAmr ibn Dīnār al-Baṣrī (T, Q): He is Abū Yaḥyā al-Aʿwar, the steward of the household of al-Zubayr ibn Shuʿayb of Basrah. He transmitted little; he has two—or a few more—hadiths.

⦗1⦘ A legal maxim attributed to Ibn ʿAbbās: marrying a free woman while already married to a slave-woman automatically annuls the latter marriage.
