ibn Aḥmad; ʿAbd Allāh al-Manīʿī informed us; Hudbah narrated to us; Abān al-ʿAṭṭār narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr reported that Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm told him, and that Abū Salamah told him:
He entered upon ʿĀʾishah while she was disputing over a piece of land. She said, “Keep away from land, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever wrongfully seizes even a hand-span of land will be encircled by it from the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.’”
Muslim recorded it (1) through Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr, from Ḥabbān, from Abān ibn Yazīd with similar wording.
141 – Zubayd ibn al-Ḥārith al-Yāmī al-Kūfī (ʿ)
A ḥāfiẓ and one of the notable authorities.
He narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā, Abū Wāʾil, Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Nakhaʿī, Ibrāhīm ibn Suwayd al-Nakhaʿī, and others.
I know of nothing he transmitted directly from any Companion, although he saw them; he therefore belongs to the younger Successors.
Among those who reported from him are Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim, Shuʿbah, Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah, Sufyān al-Thawrī, Sharīk, and many others.
Shuʿbah said, “I have never seen a man better than Zubayd.”
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah related that Zubayd said, “A thousand dung-pellets are dearer to me than a thousand dinars.”
Ibn Shubrumah stated: Zubayd would divide the night into three parts—one part for himself, one for his son, and one for his other son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. He would pray, then say to one of them, “Get up.” If he delayed, Zubayd would perform that son’s portion and then tell the other, “Get up.” If he too delayed, Zubayd would pray his portion as well, so that he ended up spending the whole night in prayer.
