However, four years before his death his memory became confused.
I say: I do not think he related anything during that period of confusion, nor is any objectionable report recorded from him.
He died in 125 AH.
Others said he died in 123 AH; still others said in 126 AH, and he was in his nineties at the time.
Among the lofty chains that have reached us from him is the following:
Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq informed us; Akmal ibn Abī al-Azhar informed us; Abū ’l-Qāsim ibn al-Bannāʾ informed us; Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad informed us; Abū Bakr ibn Zunbūr narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; ʿĪsā ibn Ḥammād narrated to us; al-Layth informed us, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “In Paradise there is a tree beneath whose shade a mounted traveler could ride for one hundred years.” (1)
