Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

and Warrād, the scribe of al-Mughīrah; Abū ʿAmmār al-Hamdānī; Sulaymān ibn Buraydah; Abū Burdah ibn Abī Mūsā; Abū Maryam al-Azdi; and a number of others.

He was not a prolific narrator.

Those who reported from him include his father; Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī; Salamah ibn Kuhayl; al-Ḥakam; Simāk ibn Ḥarb; ʿAlqamah ibn Marthad; Hilāl ibn Yasāf—despite his seniority—Abū Ḥuṣayn; Ibn Abī Khālid; Ḥassān ibn ʿAṭiyyah; Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād; al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥurr; Yazīd ibn Abī Maryam al-Shāmī; al-Awzāʿī; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Shuʿaythī; Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz; Zayd ibn Wāqid; al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥawshab al-Naṣrī; Yazīd ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir; and many others.

Ibn Saʿd lists him in the second tier of the scholars of Kufa, remarking: “He was reliable and possessed narrations.”

ʿAbbās reported from Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn: “He was a Kufan who later went to Syria, and we have not heard that he received anything from any of the Companions.”

Yaḥyā, Abū Ḥātim, and al-ʿIjlī all declared him trustworthy.

Abū Ḥātim further said: “Trustworthy, truthful, a Kufan; he taught in Kufa and then settled in Syria.”

Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid recounted: “We used to study in the school of al-Qāsim ibn Mukhaymirah. He would teach us and take nothing from us.”

Muḥammad ibn Kathīr narrated from al-Awzāʿī: “Al-Qāsim ibn Mukhaymirah used to come to us here of his own accord. When he wished to return, he would ask the governor’s permission. Someone said to him, ‘What if he does not permit you?’ He replied, ‘Then I will stay,’ and he recited, ‘When they are with him concerning a collective matter, they do not depart until they have asked his leave’ (Q 24:62).”

Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī transmitted a similar report from al-Awzāʿī, adding that al-Qāsim would say: “Whoever disobeys the one who deputes him will have none of his prayers accepted until he returns.”
