Misʿar also transmitted—from ʿUmar—who said: “Hold fast to that upon which Allah reunites those who are divided; by this—Allah knows best—he meant the consensus (ijmāʿ) and the well-attested view.”
ʿAbd al-Jabbār ibn al-ʿAlāʾ narrated—from Ibn ʿUyaynah—from Misʿar—who said: “ʿAmr ibn Murrah was one of the very sources of truthfulness.”
Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī, through Ḥammād ibn Zādhān, said: “I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī say, ‘The master memorisers (ḥuffāẓ) of Kūfah are four: ʿAmr ibn Murrah, Manṣūr, Salamah ibn Kuhayl, and Abū Ḥuṣayn.’”
Aḥmad ibn Sinān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, said: “There are four men in Kūfah whose ḥadith is undisputed; whoever disagrees with them is the one in error—among them is ʿAmr ibn Murrah.”
Abū Nuʿaym and Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal said: “ʿAmr died in the year 116 AH.” Another report says that he died in 118 AH.
Among his narrations is the following:
Ibn al-Bukhārī and a group wrote to inform us; they said: ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad informed us; ʿAbd al-Wahhāb the ḥāfiẓ informed us; Ibn Hazār-Mardā informed us; Ibn Ḥabābah informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad informed us; ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us; Shuʿbah informed us, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah:
“I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā—who was among those who pledged beneath the Tree—say:
Whenever the Prophet ﷺ received charity from a people, he would say, ‘Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalayhim (O Allah, bless them).’ When my father brought him his charity, he said, ‘Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā āl Abī Awfā (O Allah, bless the family of Abū Awfā).’” (1)
