ʿAbd al-Majīd (2) ibn Abī Rawād, from Ibn Jurayj; and al-Muthannā ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, who said:
“Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr performed ṭawāf (circumambulation) with his father. When they reached the seventh circuit, his father took him by the hand to the rear of the Kaʿbah …”—and so on, the remainder of the report. (1)
Muhammad transmitted only a handful of reports; we have already mentioned for him the ḥadith, “It is not lawful to combine a loan with a sale.”
Al-Nasāʾī said: “ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Khurrādhadh related to us; Suhayl ibn Bakkār related to us; from Wuhayb; from Ibn Ṭāwūs; from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb; from his father; from his father, Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah—once he said, ‘from his father,’ and another time, ‘from his grandfather’—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, on the day of Khaybar, forbade the meat of domesticated donkeys and of the jalālah (an animal that feeds on filth). This is the wording transmitted by Abū ʿAlī al-Asyūṭī from al-Nasāʾī.
In the recension of Ibn Ḥayyūyah from al-Nasāʾī it reads, “ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father; Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr,” and this is an error.
As for Abū Dāwūd, he recorded it from Sahl ibn Bakkār with his chain and said, “from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather,” just like his other narrations.
This is everything that can be cited to show that Muhammad has any narrations at all.
It appears that he died during his father’s lifetime—and Allah knows best.
Abū al-Maʿālī Aḥmad ibn al-Muʾayyad informed us; al-Fatḥ ibn ʿAbd al-Salām informed us; Hibat Allah ibn Abī Sharīk informed us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Naqqūr informed us; ʿĪsā ibn al-Jarrāḥ narrated to us in the year 389 AH; it was read to Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī—while I
