Among them is what is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ who said: “Whoever is entrusted with a deposit incurs no liability for it.” (1)

Among them also is that two women came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing gold bangles. He asked, “Would you like Allah to adorn you with two bangles of fire?” They answered, “No.” He said, “Then pay its zakah.” (2)

Among them, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever performs a prescribed prayer should recite the Mother of the Qur’an and another portion of the Qur’an along with it.” (3)

His grandfather. The report has an authentic supporting narration that strengthens it, transmitted from Abu Basrah al-Ghifari and recorded by Ahmad (6/7) and al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-kabir (1/100/1) through two routes from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak, from Saʿid ibn Yazid, who said: Ibn Hubayrah related to me from Abu Tamim al-Jayshani that ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs addressed the people on a Friday and said, “Abu Basrah told me that the Prophet ﷺ declared: ‘Allah has added for you a prayer—the witr—so perform it between the night prayer and the dawn prayer.’” Abu Tamim continues: Abu Dharr took me by the hand and we walked through the mosque to Abu Basrah, where he asked, “Did you really hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say what ʿAmr has just reported?” Abu Basrah replied, “I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The chain is sound according to the criteria of Muslim. Ahmad (6/397) and al-Tahawi (1/250) also transmitted it through Ibn Lahiʿah from Ibn Hubayrah. (1) A hadith that is hasan by virtue of its collective chains. Ibn Majah (2401) reports it via Ayyub ibn Suwayd, from al-Muthanna ibn al-Sabbaḥ, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb. Al-Daraqutni (3/41) relates it through ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbar, from ʿUbaydah ibn Hassan, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Prophet ﷺ: “There is no liability upon one who has been entrusted.” ʿAmr and ʿUbaydah are weak narrators. Al-Daraqutni (3/41) and al-Bayhaqi (6/289) also record it through Yazid ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Hajabi, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, with the wording: “No liability rests upon an entrusted person.” (2) Reported by al-Tirmidhi (637) through Ibn Lahiʿah and by ʿAbd al-Razzaq (7065) through al-Muthanna ibn al-Sabbaḥ; also by Abu Dawud (1563) and al-Nasaʾi (5/38) through Husayn al-Muʿallim— all from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather. This isnad is hasan; it was authenticated by Ibn al-Qattan and Ibn al-Mulqin. Al-Hafiz al-Munziri said, “Its chain is beyond criticism,” and Ibn Hajar stated, “This isnad establishes the proof.” The obligation of zakat on jewellery was affirmed by ʿUmar, Ibn Masʿud, ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs, Ibn ʿAbbas, and also by Saʿid ibn Jubayr, Saʿid ibn al-Musayyab, ʿAtaʾ, Ibn Sirin, Jabir ibn Zayd and Mujahid; it is likewise the opinion of al-Zuhri, al-Thawri and the Hanafi jurists. (3) Although the chain of this specific report is weak, the hadith itself is sound owing to its corroborating narrations. Muslim (395/37) and Abu Dawud (822) transmitted—through al-Zuhri, from Mahmud ibn al-Rabiʿ, from ʿUbada ibn al-Samit—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No …” (text incomplete).
