in life except two things: the Ṣādiqa and the Wahṭa. As for the Ṣādiqa, it is a scroll I wrote from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; and as for the Wahṭa, it is a tract of land (1) that ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ gave in charity, which I oversee.

Ayyūb ibn Suwayd, reporting from al-Awzāʿī, said:
“I have never seen a Qurashī superior—in another wording: I have not encountered a Qurashī more complete—than ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb.”

ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī said: “Shuʿayb heard from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, and his son—ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb—heard from him.”

Al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān narrated from Ibn Rāhwayh, who said:
“If the narrator who reports ‘from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather’ is trustworthy, the chain is like that of Ayyūb, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar.”

Al-ʿIjli and al-Nasāʾī said, “He is trustworthy.” Al-Nasāʾī also said on another occasion, “There is no harm in him.”

Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh said: “ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb is reliable. Authorities on narrator criticism—such as Ayyūb, al-Zuhrī, and al-Ḥakam—transmitted from him, and our colleagues have adduced his hadith as proof. His father heard from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, Ibn ʿUmar, and Ibn ʿAbbās.”

Abū Bakr ibn Ziyād al-Naysābūrī said: “The audition of ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb is established, and the audition of Shuʿayb from his grandfather ʿAbd Allāh is likewise established.”

Al-Dāraquṭnī said: “ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb has three grandfathers: the nearest is Muḥammad, the middle is ʿAbd Allāh, and the furthest is ʿAmr. Shuʿayb heard from the nearest, Muḥammad—who is a tābiʿī—and he also heard from his grandfather ʿAbd Allāh. Whenever he identifies and clarifies which of them he means, the report is sound.”

He added: “None of the leading imams abandoned his narrations, yet he did not hear from his most distant grandfather, ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ.”
