Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

and Abū ʿAwānah, as well as his grandson al-Mustanīr ibn Akhḍar ibn Muʿāwiyah, and many others—indeed, even Shahr ibn Ḥawshab narrated from him.

He was declared reliable by Ibn Maʿīn, al-ʿIjlī, Abū Ḥātim, Ibn Saʿd, and al-Nasāʾī.

Maṭar al-Aʿnaq (1) reported from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah, who said:
“I met many of the Prophet’s Companions—among them twenty-five men from Muzaynah.”

Abū Ṭalḥah Shaddād ibn Saʿīd al-Rāsibī narrated from Muʿāwiyah:
“I encountered thirty Companions; not one of them but had stabbed or been stabbed, struck or been struck, alongside the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”

Tammām ibn Najīḥ transmitted from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah that he said:
“I met seventy of the Companions. Were they to come out among you today, they would recognise nothing of what you practise except the call to prayer.”

Ḥammād ibn Salamah related: Ḥajjāj al-Aswad told us that Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah said, “Who will direct me to a man who weeps by night and smiles by day?”

ʿAwn ibn Mūsā reported from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah that he said, “The tears produced by deeds are dearer to me than the tears shed by the eyes.”

ʿAlī ibn al-Mubārak narrated from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah that he said:
“Do not use your knowledge to sit with the foolish, nor use your foolishness to sit with the scholars.”

Asad ibn Mūsā, through ʿAwn ibn Mūsā, said: I heard Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah say,
“To be free of hypocrisy is dearer to me than this world and all it contains. ʿUmar used to fear it—shall I feel safe from it?”

It is said that Muʿāwiyah was born on the Day of the Camel.
