ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, and ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.
In another wording: “the Rightly Guided Caliphs.”
A similar report comes from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, and ʿAbbād ibn al-Sammāk related the same from al-Thawrī.
Abū al-Malīḥ narrated from Khuṣayf:
“I saw in a dream a man with two others, one on his right and one on his left. ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz approached, wishing to sit between the one on the right and the one in the middle. The man next to him closed the gap, but the middle figure pulled him over and seated him in his own lap. I asked, ‘Who is this?’ They replied, ‘This is the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—this is Abū Bakr, and this is ʿUmar.’”
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd reported from ʿUmar ibn Asīd:
“By Allah, ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz did not die before people would bring us huge sums of money, saying, ‘Put this wherever you think best.’ Yet they would always leave with all their money, for ʿUmar had already enriched the community.”
Juwayriyyah ibn Asmāʾ said: “We visited Fāṭimah (1), the daughter of Imām ʿAlī, and she praised ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, saying, ‘Had he remained with us, we would never again have needed anyone else.’”
Ḍamrah related that ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz wrote to one of his governors:
