ʿAbd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: “Yaḥyā ibn ʿUthmān al-Ḥarbī related to me; Abu al-Malīḥ related to us, from Maymūn, who said:
‘No man—prophet or otherwise—ever attained any substantial good except through patience.’
al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāma reported: “Kathīr ibn Hishām narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Burqān narrated to us; Yazīd ibn al-Aṣamm said:
‘I met ʿĀʾisha, may Allah be pleased with her, as she was returning from Mecca. I was with a son of Ṭalḥa, her sister’s son. We had entered one of the gardens of Medina and eaten from it. When that reached her, she turned to her nephew and reproached him; then she admonished me and said:
“Do you not know that Allah steered you until He placed you in the household of His Prophet? By Allah, Maymūna is gone, and your reins have been thrown upon your withers. She was, by Allah, the most devout of us toward Allah and the best of us in maintaining kinship ties.”’⦗1⦘
The pen has run to record this here. Yazīd ibn al-Aṣamm was among the distinguished Successors in Raqqa.
All the authors of the canonical collections, except al-Bukhārī, transmitted ḥadiths from Maymūn ibn Mihrān; I do not know why he left him out.
Ibn Saʿd, Abū ʿArūbah and others said: He died in 117 AH.
Shabbān said: in 116 AH.
He has a ḥadith that will be cited later.
